MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - The Miami Beach Police Department is seeking the public’s help finding the man behind a reported rape on Sunday night.

Police said they received a call about the attack, which occurred near the 21st Street and Ocean Drive, at around 10 p.m., Sunday.

According to police, the woman was walking to work when she stopped to take pictures on the shoreline. She saw a man seated on a beach chair who approached her, punched her several times in the face and put her in a chokehold, according to police.

He then used a sharpened object to cut the victim’s face, according to police, and raped her. Police said the victim fought back, broke free and ran to a nearby hotel, where emergency responders were called.

Detectives are asking for help identifying the subject that police described as a black man, standing 5 feet 7 inches, with a slim build, dark, curly hair and an unshaved face. He was wearing a faded green short sleeve T-shirt with an unknown type of logo with triangles and light color long shorts, according to police.

Police said the subject faces charges of attempted murder and sexual battery.
