MIRAMAR, Fla. (WSVN) — Police are investigating, after finding the body of a hit-and-run victim in the middle of the road in Miramar.
According to Miramar Police, around midnight, a white cargo van fatally struck a man along a busy intersection.
Surveillance video from a local business showed a man walking across State Road 7 and Southwest 25th Street, nearly being hit by several cars. He continued to walk across the street when the van struck him.
“It seemed like he might’ve been dragged or pushed by the vehicle, then rolled from one spot to the other,” said local business owner Todd White. “I’d like to think that the gentleman actually was startled and didn’t know what he hit … It’s hard to tell.”
White said he had boots on and “looked like a working man.”
According to police, the victim is an unidentified black male. Due to the severity and impact of the crash, investigators are unable to determine the man’s age and identity.
“It’s disgusting. People are really disgusting and nasty,” said one local, Roandren Williams. “Whoever it is and when they do find them, however, whatever it takes, they need to be punished.”
Officials are now searching for a white cargo van with front and left-front-end damage.
Investigators are currently reviewing the surveillance video from businesses along the intersection where the body was found, to see if they can get a better description of the vehicle at fault.
