MIAMI (WSVN) - A man accused of attempting to murder his roommate on Feb. 14 was not present at his hearing, Friday.

Thirty-five-year-old Byron Mitchell faces charges of attempted murder.

Though he was not present at his hearing, his 23-year-old former roommate, Danielle Jones, who became the victim to his attack, made an appearance in an attempt to come face-to-face with her attacker.

Aimee Nikolove, the victim’s mother, said, “Well, I did expect him to be here, this is where he is supposed to plead guilty or not guilty. It’s disappointing because I want justice to prevail, and I want this hearing to finally happen.”

According to police, on Valentine’s Day, Jones was left in a coma for a month after Mitchell allegedly attacked Jones with a knife inside of their shared Miami apartment.

The pair met on Craigslist.

The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14.
