MIAMI (WSVN) - Upperclassmen at Miami-Dade County Public Schools are taking part in a college readiness program with Columbia University.
Girls that are juniors and seniors in high school are getting a chance to participate in sessions to prepare them for college in subjects ranging in science, technology, engineering and math.
Students also had a chance to speak with a group of female students at Columbia via Skype.
“It’s more interactive, more hands on,” said student Arselyne Chery, “and it’s nice being able to learn all these things from women themselves ’cause then it makes us feel that we’re important, and that we can do a lot of things.”
Miami is one of just three school districts in the country that is taking part in the inaugural program.
