CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. (WSVN) - A Fort Lauderdale Police officer was killed and a fire rescue officer was taken to the hospital after, authorities said, a car rear-ended their vehicle in Coral Springs, early Saturday.

According to Coral Springs Police, 30-year-old Christopher Sheehan was at the wheel of a 1995 Jeep Wrangler when a 2010 Dodge Challenger crashed into him near U.S. 441 and Wiles Road, at around 2:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics transported Sheehan’s passenger, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Capt. Jacob Snowhite, to Northwest Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. The 41-year-old remained in the hospital on Sunday.

The driver of the Challenger, identified as 29-year-old Margate resident Joselyn Lopez, stayed at the scene. She was not injured.

Investigators said speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.
