ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Detectives in Orlando are trying to determine why a 27-year-old Florida man fatally shot a YouTube sensation and former contestant on “The Voice.”
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Saturday that singer Christina Grimmie had no known personal connection to her assailant, 27-year-old Kevin Loibl of St. Petersburg.
Police say Loibl shot Grimmie Friday night as she was signing autographs after a concert in Orlando. She died a few hours later. Grimmie’s brother tackled Loibl, who then fatally shot himself.
Mina says detectives are searching Loibl’s cellphone and social media accounts looking for clues.
The 22-year-old singer from New Jersey finished third during season six of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2014.
