DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - A dangerous police chase in Davie ended with the driver killing himself near the northbound lanes of Interstate 75.

Police said 26-year-old Lance Warren opened fire into a white Pontiac along State Road 84 and University Drive in Davie before leading them on a chase, at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

“We don’t have any information that would lead us to believe this was road rage,” said Davie Police Sgt. Mark Leon. “We’re still looking into it.”

The male victim who was shot at in the Pontiac was not hurt, police said.

“The guy got out and showed me his arm,” said witness Timothy Auwland. “There were bullet holes in the window.”

Officers called off the chase after the suspect started driving erratically.

About an hour later, officers spotted the suspect’s white truck and proceeded to stop it.

“As the police officers walked up to the vehicle when it was stopped in the middle of I-75, he retrieved a gun from either the floor or the passenger seat and killed himself,” said Leon.

Police said the vehicle rolled off the highway and came to a final stop in a grassy area off of I-75, by Royal Palm Boulevard.

Officials temporarily blocked off at least two right northbound lanes. The northbound lanes have since been reopened.

7News went to the subject’s home to find out what would cause this type of behavior. His family declined to comment.
