WSVN — A laundry closet can be a cluttered nightmare. On tonight’s Room for Improvement, our makeover maestro is rescuing you from the mess with a refreshed space.

Martin Amado: “Even a small area like a laundry closet can use some TLC. On today’s ‘Room for Improvement,’ this is my challenge: making it look more pleasing to the eye while keeping its function.”

Martin Amado: “These wire shelves serve their purpose, but if you notice, they do hold a lot of dirt. I have a more stylish solution coming up, but first let’s empty out the closet.”

Martin Amado: “So we can say goodbye to this forever! Yuck!”

Martin Amado: “Now that we’re starting with a blank slate, of course, I’m not leaving the walls white. I’m painting them this beautiful soft green that will pop nicely in the backdrop against the white shelves.”

Martin Amado: “Often times, homeowners leave their closet spaces a boring white, and it’s a great opportunity to introduce a pop of color and really make a statement.”

Martin Amado: “When painting over white walls, I like buying the paint already mixed in with the primer for better coverage.”

Martin Amado: “All right! Now we just watch the paint dry.”

Martin Amado: “Now it’s time to install the shelving beginning with the support rail across the top.”

Martin Amado: “And now we can install our vertical brackets that will actually hold all of the shelving.”

Martin Amado: “Much nicer than the wire shelving we had before.”

Martin Amado: “With the shelving up, we can now concentrate on organizing all of our supplies, and for that I’m using plastic bins in different sizes. Easily stackable, plus you can see what’s in them.”

Martin Amado: “Final touch, a clothes basket, and our laundry room is now complete.”

Martin Amado: “This morning the closet was completely cluttered. Now we created a new environment that changes the experience when doing laundry. Dare I say, it can actually be fun. Until next time, I’m Martin Amado for 7News.”
