SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A fundraiser aiming to improve the lives of children with special needs was held in Southwest Miami-Dade, Sunday.

Charitable South Floridians came together at the Learning Links School to participate in the live auction. The funds will benefit Dr. Michael Geraldi and his wife Camille’s organization, the Possible Dream Foundation, which assists people with special needs.

Geraldi, a pediatrician, died Tuesday at the age of 73, after a yearlong battle with cancer. The couple dedicated their lives to helping children with special needs; they adopted more than 80 kids over the years.

After his diagnosis, community members reached out to show their appreciation. "I met these girls who said they want to help because my husband wasn’t able to work for 15 months after he got diagnosed," said Camille. "It’s amazing, from nobody, total strangers, they did all this for us, and it’s absolutely amazing to me."

The fundraiser raised more than $6,000 for the foundation.
