SOUTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida mother is grieving after her son was killed in a shooting inside the South Miami Market.

Family members of 22-year-old Markeith Nickles, who was killed in the shooting, rushed to the scene in South Miami, Friday.

South Miami Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were investigating the fatal shooting at 5940 S.W. 68th St., where a police perimeter is set up near the market. They were on the scene for hours.

“They said they shot him twice in the chest in broad daylight, in the store,” said Shakeshia Nickles, the victim’s mother.

The shooting was a result of an argument that went bad, killing the father of a 2-year-old. 7SkyForce HD flew over the market, Friday after officials responded to the call, at around 11:15 a.m.

“Right now, we’re in disbelief,” the victim’s mother said.

The Nickles family is hoping surveillance cameras will reveal the identity of who was behind the gun. “There’s cameras, so somebody is gonna say something,” the victim’s mother said. “Something’s gonna be out.”

Joann Billings, the victim’s grandmother is hopeful that justice will be served. “They gonna get you. Whoever it is, baby, you going,” she said.

The shooter remains at large, and the police perimeter remains in place as of 5 p.m.

At least a dozen family members remained outside the market and could be heard crying and yelling as they mourned their loved one. They left only after the 22-year-old’s body was removed from the scene.
