SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Rescue crews responded to the scene of a collision between a pickup truck and a bus that was carrying children in Southwest Miami-Dade, Thursday morning.

Authorities said the bus was heading eastbound on Southwest 152nd Street when the pickup truck, which was making a left turn, T-boned the bus near the Florida Turnpike, at around 8 a.m. The bus was headed from Deerwood KinderCare to Gloria Floyd Elementary.

According to police, the driver of the pickup truck is at fault.

An officer kept the small survivors, who attend Deerwood KinderCare, company after the bus ended up on its side.

Parents spoke with 7News about their concern for their children when hearing about the crash. “Glad to hear none of the kids were hurt,” said Michael Bennett, a concerned father. “People are in a rush all the time to get to work a little bit early. They take chances and something bad like this happens.”

A total of nine children were on board and were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and were not injured, said police. They were all picked up by another bus and taken to the KinderCare center, located on the 1500 Block of Southwest 122nd Avenue.

Officials were seen giving the children bandages and making sure they were OK.

Michael Leon, a father who lives nearby the school said he’s thankful his children were not involved in the crash. “The way people drive out here is kinda wicked too,” he said. “It leaves people in bad positions.”

KinderCare said in a statement that they have released the children to their parents.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the driver of the bus was injured and transported to Jackson South. The driver of the pickup truck went to the hospital after being picked up by his wife.

Southwest 152nd Street was shut down eastbound approaching the Turnpike. The van was towed away before the road reopened.

Officials have not confirmed if any citations will be given.
