NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A family got into their car for dinner in Northwest Miami-Dade, Sunday night, when a second car hit them, killing three passengers inside.
According to police, 55-year-old Paul Manreza, the driver of the Toyota Corolla, was at the intersection of Northwest 17th Avenue and 119th Street when a gray 2006 Chevrolet Impala struck Manreza’s vehicle.
Surveillance video captured the impact which Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said killed Manreza’s passengers on the scene.
Mariza Arujo said she was ready to marry Ramon Castro, one of the passengers killed in the crash. “They took the one thing that was precious to me,” said Arujo.
According to the family, they were told by police that the driver of the Impala, 32-year-old Shakeena Hasty, was caught speeding at 110 miles per hour before hitting the Corolla. “I was calling him and calling my cousin, and neither of them were answering the phone,” said Arujo, “so all of the sudden my daughter came with a car and said there is a big accident on the corner, under the light.”
Hasty suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to North Shore Hospital. Manreza was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center to treat a broken wrist.
Both drivers survived, but Arujo knows she will never get to see the love of her life again. “I’m devastated because I know I’m not going to see my husband no more. Never again am I going to see him because someone decided to do that.”
Police are continuing to investigate the fatal accident.
