After a rather beautiful stretch of weather this week with noticeably lower humidity, changes do arrive for the weekend in South Florida with muggy conditions returning along with showers, clouds and a stronger breeze.
On Saturday, the day overall will be dry with a blend of sun and clouds, but isolated showers are expected across the area, especially midday today. High temperatures will be near average into the mid to upper 80s. The wind will be stronger out of the northeast from 10-20 mph with stronger gusts, so that will make for a high rip current risk for the east coast beaches. Minor flooding also is expected in spots due to the King Tides and full moon this morning.
Shower activity will increase tonight and especially on Sunday as a surge of tropical moisture meets a stalling front approaching South Florida. That means scattered to numerous showers are forecast for our Sunday paired with partly sunny skies and highs into the mid 80s.
Rain chances are expected to drop down to 30-40% for the early to middle portion of next week before a potential second front moves into Florida by next weekend, which could increase our risk for rain once again.
In the tropics, all is quiet except for Tropical Storm Julia strengthening over the western Caribbean Sea. Julia is forecast to make landfall on Nicaragua tomorrow morning as a Category 1 hurricane. Heavy rain and flooding are the main threats from this storm, with a widespread 5-10 inches of rainfall forecast across Nicaragua and other portions of Central America. Isolated totals of up to 15 inches are possible.
