Happy Sunday, South Florida!

Hopefully everyone is having a great weekend so far. The first half started off rather gloomy and soggy here in South Florida but this morning already showed improvement as compared to what we saw yesterday. Clouds still remain in place but the Sun has been trying to peek out from time to time while South Florida woke up to ‘drier’ conditions as compared to what we saw on Friday and Saturday. This is what we like to see here in South Florida.

The source of the moisture the last couple of days was being funneled from the Caribbean in association with what is now Tropical Storm Gamma. But as Gamma rounds the corner of the Yucatán peninsula into the Gulf of Mexico, it will continue to move away from South Florida and heading towards Mexico. This means that the tropical moisture associated with it will continue to move farther away from our area,….improving our conditions into the start of the work week.

So what can we expect today? Well for one, South Florida will finally begin to see a bit more in the way of sunshine this afternoon as compared to the last couple of days which remained gloomy and gray around here. But we also have an onshore flow back in place, which means our winds will be out of the ESE for most of the day today. This will help tap into some moisture from the Atlantic and it will also leave an elevated risk of rip currents up and down our beaches. It would be silly to assume that South Florida, specifically the East Coast metro areas, would remain dry all day so we will keep the chance of a few isolated showers moving onshore.  Luckily the heaviest of the rainfall has moved of our area.

While the latter part of the weekend shows a downtrend as far as our rain chances are concerned….drier air will continue to move in from the Atlantic, which will continue to keep our rain chances low.  Throughout the week we could see rain ramping up once again as a series of fronts do try to reach south Florida once again. We will continue on this trend of fall fronts reaching our area, but unfortunately none show to be strong enough to actually clear our area. So we could be in a similar set up by the middle of the upcoming work week before rain chances begin to go back to typical by the end of the week. Of course this is still days away so let’s just focus on the positives here….and that’s a nice end to the weekend!

Have a great rest of your weekend!
