MIAMI (AP) — Fernando Rodney is a free agent after the Miami Marlins declined his $2 million option, choosing instead to pay a $400,000 buyout.

The 39-year-old reliever had a 5.89 ERA and eight saves in 39 games after being acquired by the Marlins in a June trade with San Diego for minor league right-hander Chris Paddack.

Rodney made his third All-Star team this season and finished 2-4 with a 3.44 ERA and 25 saves. The right-hander has 261 career saves and a 3.69 ERA in 14 major league seasons.
