DUBLIN (AP) — JT McNamara, an Irish jockey who was paralyzed following a fall at the Cheltenham Festival in 2013, has died. He was 41.

McNamara’s death was announced by The Irish Turf Club, which didn’t provide a cause.

McNamara was initially treated in Britain following the Cheltenham fall that left him paralyzed after fracturing two vertebrae in his neck. He was transferred to a Dublin hospital but returned to Britain to be treated by spinal injuries experts.

He returned to his home in Ireland and required constant care.
