OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — One year after a crushing defeat at Chambers Bay, Dustin Johnson is atop the leaderboard at the U.S. Open.

Johnson was immaculate from tee-to-green at Oakmont during a marathon day of 36 holes on Friday. He had a 3-under 67 in the opening round, then went back out for a 69 in the afternoon.

He was at 4-under 136.

Andrew Landry had a much shorter day. The 28-year-old qualifier only had to hit one shot Friday when he returned in the morning to make a 10-foot birdie putt for a 66. It was the best opening round in 10 majors held at Oakmont, beating a record shared by Ben Hogan and Tom Watson.

Landry plays his second round Saturday morning.
