HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (WSVN) - The Florida Panthers teamed up off the ice to give art from the heart to a South Florida hospital.

The Stanley Cup champs on Wednesday partnered with pop artist Jozza and the American Cancer Society to bring a life-size sculpture of a panther to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

The sculpture is part of the team’s Panthers on the Prowl, a fundraising initiative chaired by Panthers general manager Bill Zito and his wife Julie.

With guidance from Jozza, the young patients helped design the sculpture, getting to decorate it with pediatric cancer ribbon colors, uplifting words, 3-D elements like Legos and even pieces of candy.

“What I tried to do is, like, bring some smiles for those kids’ faces, that they’ve been through so many troubles, man, and been suffering so much,” said Jozza.

“So we’re cheering on Bill and the team, and more importantly, we’re cheering for our kids here, our cancer warriors,” said Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital CEO Caitlin Stella.

A bell hangs around the panther sculpture’s neck to symbolize what the young patients ring at the end of cancer treatment.

Other statues will be displayed across South Florida to benefit cancer research, patient services and advocacy efforts.
