MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens have hired Kirk Muller as an associate coach on Michel Therrien’s staff.
General manager Marc Bergevin announced the move Thursday that returned Muller to his coaching roots.
Muller spent the past two seasons as an assistant with the St. Louis Blues. Previously, he coached of the Carolina Hurricanes for three seasons.
After a 19-year career playing in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils, Canadiens, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars, Muller got his start in coaching with Montreal in 2006. His work under Guy Carbonneau, Bob Gainey and Jacques Martin got him the head job with Carolina.
Bergevin said Muller’s “thorough knowledge of the Montreal market” should help him and the team.
