Many summer camps are drawing to a close and with the initial excitement of summer break a distant memory, children and families in Miami-Dade County are left looking for ways to entertain themselves and find productive things to do.

Add to that the building anxiety that the school year is fast approaching – a week earlier than last year on August 17 – and parents could be feeling a different kind of heat during the South Florida summer.

But hold on. Before panic sets in, the 2022 The Children’s Trust Family Expo is set to kick off three events that will bring days full of entertainment and activities coupled with access to resources and information that will give your back-to-school preparations a running start.

This year’s Family Expo will be held on consecutive Saturdays starting July 23, then July 30 and finally on August 6 in the central, south and north regions of the county, respectively. Each event features Trust-funded providers, partners and community organizations dedicated to providing services to children and families.

The Family Expo event locations and dates were planned to reach out to communities in need of help and with a focus on back-to-school preparations. The Trust will be giving away backpacks, pencils, crayons, pencil pouches, binders coloring books, water bottles and more. Families can also sign up for a variety of special Trust programs like the Parent Club and the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), as well as get information on after-school and youth enrichment programs, and much more.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami-Dade County and other organizations will also be present with giveaways and information on arts/sports programs, STEM, health & wellness, information for special populations, family services and more.

To make sure the Family Expos are as fun as they are useful, the events are chock-full of entertainment. This year’s lineup includes juggling stilt-walkers, a mime, unicyclist, arts and crafts activities, bounce houses and more. Each event also features a stage with musical performances, stage shows, community talent and DJs spinning music throughout the event to keep the energy high and good times rolling.

The Family Expo will be held outdoors under tents, with free water and cooling stations available.

All of this year’s Family Expo events will feature food trucks with free meals given to families and children (while supplies last) courtesy of the Miami Dolphins.
