WSVN — What if you could erase those fine lines and wrinkles, or make those acne scars disappear? A local doctor is using new technology to help his patients see smoother skin. 7’s Danielle Knox shows us how this wrinkle reducer works.

Like most women, Angela Madrigal can’t stand it when lipstick bleeds into the lines around her lips.

Angela Madrigal: “When you start getting older, you start having a little bit of wrinkles. You want to change it.”

There aren’t many great options out there. Over-the-counter creams and cosmetic fillers aren’t permanent and Angela wasn’t ready to get a facelift.

So she went to see Dr. John Martin, a plastic surgeon in Coral Gables who is offering something new. It’s called Infini, a new device which uses micro-needles and radiofrequency energy to smooth the skin.

Dr. John Martin: “Microscopic needles go down into the skin and by creating some trauma, it stimulates new collagen growth. Plus, you get the radiofrequency with the heat.”

Here’s how it works; first Dr. Martin numbs the area around Angela’s lips. Then he sets the depth of the micro-needles in the device. As needles penetrate the skin, it releases heat into the deepest layers which also creates new collagen.

Dr. John Martin: “So that new collagen will work to tighten the skin and decrease the lines and wrinkles.”

The treatment takes about 10 minutes.

Dr. John Martin: “We usually recommend three treatments about a month apart.”

And Dr. Martin says the effects are long-lasting.

Dr. John Martin: “Once that new collagen is there, the skin should look better for probably several years.”

And Infini isn’t just for wrinkles.

Dr. John Martin: “It’s good for any sort of scarring.”

Alex Perez had had deep acne scars since he was a teenager.

Alex Perez: “It makes you a little bit self-conscious when you’re speaking to people.”

He tried Infini and saw results quickly.

Alex Perez: “I started to notice like a week after that the texture had changed.”

Alex says one of the best parts is you can go back to work right away.

Alex Perez: “Compared to other treatments that I’ve done, it’s just easy. There’s not a lot of recovery time.”

Angela says the procedure is not painless, but she says it’s worth it.

Angela Madrigal: “It makes you feel better and it makes you look better.”

The cost depends on the area being treated. Three sessions around the lips will run you between $1,500 to $2,000.
