WOODRUFF, S.C. (WSVN) — A woman who had been missing for two months has been found alive after being held captive and chained inside a metal storage container in South Carolina.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said 30-year-old Kala Brown was found “chained up like a dog” in a metal storage container, measuring approximately 15 feet by 30 feet.

Investigators discovered the missing woman Tuesday after hearing a banging sound coming from inside the container.

Authorities said Brown was being fed by her captor while chained up by her neck.

Brown and her boyfriend Charles Carver were reported missing after the two disappeared in late August. Police said Carver is still missing.

Police arrested Todd Kohlhepp, listed as the property owner in Spartanburg County’s tax records.

Kohlhepp is listed as a sex offender on South Carolina’s Law Enforcement Division Sex Offender Registry, convicted of kidnapping in Arizona in 1987.

Wright said the sheriff’s office received a tip that as many as four bodies could be on Kohlhepp’s property.

“We’re trying to make sure that we don’t have a serial killer on our hands,” Wright said. “It very possibly could be what we have.”

Investigators were using a backhoe on the 100-acre property to search for evidence.
