SAN FRANCISCO (WSVN) – Twitter has announced Vine, the widely-used video app, will be shutting down in the coming months.

According to a joint release by Vine and Twitter on Thursday, the company will be discontinuing the mobile app in the next few months. The website itself will remain online and users will continue to have the ability to download their Vines, the release stated.

No further details were announced for what to expect after Vine officially shuts down.

Twitter acquired Vine in October of 2012.
