EVERETT, Wash. (WSVN) — Toys R Us says they are temporarily pulling a toy truck off their shelves after one apparently caught fire on a highway, burning a pickup truck.

According to KIRO-TV, Roxsane and Delmond Harden had just left Toys R Us, where they bought the 12-volt Tonka Mighty Wheels Dump Truck for their grandson. That’s when Roxsane noticed something wrong with the toy in their pickup truck’s bed.

“Sparks and smoke [were] coming from inside of the box, life fire, it was hot,” Roxsane said. “I said, ‘We gotta pull over. We gotta get out of this truck. So we pulled over. Flames started shooting.”

The couple said the fire was so intense that even the Washington State Trooper couldn’t douse the flames with his fire extinguisher.

“The officer, when he looked on, he said the flames looked, appeared to be 15, 20 feet high,” Delmond said. “It was pretty shocking.”

The fire department had to be called to put the fire out. The family’s pickup truck sustained significant damage.

Toys R Us has taken the toy off its shelves while they investigate. The store issued the Hardens a refund.

The decision to pull the truck from shelves comes just a week before Black Friday, the start of the busy holiday shopping season.
