CRETE, Ill. (AP) — Will County officials say a rabid bat attacked a woman while she was cleaning a swimming pool at a home in the village of Crete.

A news release from the Will County executive’s office says the woman was bitten on her neck and hand. She injured the animal while trying to protect herself, and called animal control officials for help.

Will County Animal Control Director Leroy Schild says workers picked up the bat and it tested positive for rabies.

He says the woman was advised to seek treatment at a hospital.
