LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) — A 34-year-old North Carolina firefighter has died after exercising while on duty.

Local media outlets report that Lincoln County firefighter Joshua Warren collapsed Thursday while jogging at East Lincoln Middle School.

Warren was rushed to a hospital, where he later died. Officials said Warren was on duty with the Alexis Fire Department at the time.

Warren had been a member of the East Lincoln Fire Department since 2013. He had worked part time for the Alexis Fire Department.

Fire officials said they could not say whether Warren had a previous medical condition.

Warren’s death is under investigation.
