A Kevlar helmet helped save the life of an Orlando officer who was injured in a mass shooting overnight Sunday, according to police.

A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded Florida nightclub early Sunday, killing at least 50 people before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said.

“There’s blood everywhere,” Mayor Buddy Dyer said in a news conference.

The exact condition of the 50 among injured, is unclear at this time.

This incident marks it as the worst mass shooting in American history.
