BALTIMORE (AP) — Authorities say a freight train has derailed in a tunnel in Baltimore, but there are no injuries or hazards to the public.
CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said at least 13 cars derailed about 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Howard Street tunnel.
Fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson says crews responded, but no poisonous substances were released and there are no injuries. The public is asked to avoid the area.
Doolittle says the train headed from Philadelphia to Cumberland, Maryland, consists of eight locomotives and 124 cars, including 18 loaded cars. He says one of the derailed cars contains acetone, a flammable solvent.
Doolittle says rail traffic is stopped in the area and the cause is under investigation.
