EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) — A 91-year-old man has shot and wounded another man who was apparently trying to rob him outside a Detroit-area store.

Eastpointe police say the apparent attacker was behaving in an erratic manner when he approached the 91-year-old man Monday morning.

Sgt. Martin Campbell tells The Detroit News that the elderly man repeatedly warned his wannabe attacker that he had a concealed pistol license “and even had the gun pointed at him … but the suspect kept coming and pointed an unknown object at the victim.”

Police say the elderly man was threatened with a piece of metal. His assailant was shot in the neck.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports 30-year-old Richard Ashford was arraigned and jailed Tuesday for assault with a dangerous weapon.
