(CNN) — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 735-foot-long cargo ship a day after its crew reported they were caught in Hurricane Joaquin near the Bahamas, the service said Friday morning.
The crew of the El Faro reported around 7:30 a.m. Thursday that it had lost power and had been taking on water, but that the flooding had been contained.
However, the Coast Guard said Friday it has since been unable to re-establish contact with the ship, which has 33 people aboard.
