FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — Seven people were hospitalized including the driver of a pick up truck who slammed into the back of a Broward County transit bus, Tuesday morning.

The bus stopped to pick up passengers around 9 a.m. on West Broward Boulevard and 27th Avenue when the truck plowed into the bus. "It was a loud boom, boom. He hit the back of the bus going around 40 or 60 mph, and it jarred me so hard, it knocked me out of my seat," said Kenton Thomas.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported six of the bus passengers to Broward General Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the pick up truck was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. One witness described the scene and condition of the driver. "I called 911 and they told me to open the passenger door. We tried to bang on the passenger window and tried to talk to him. I just didn't want to touch him but he was not responding for like 15 minutes, that's when the ambulance came and took him," said Nathaniel Rodriguez.

The six injured bus passengers are expected to be OK.
