FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — It’s time for trial for a South Florida man accused of attempted murder, but the woman representing him faces her own accusations.
Jessica Mishali David, 35, has been accused of having sex with her client, 26-year-old Ysrael Granda. She has said she is a victim of a conspiracy. According to Mishali, she and her client have been targeted, and continue to be targeted, because Granda was an informant busting deputies bringing in contraband.
Granda is on trial for charges of attempted murder, shooting into a vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
She said her meetings with her client continue to be interrupted and monitored out of proportion. "It’s been very difficult to prepare," she said. "There’s a glass between us, that’s not normal visitation. There’s also a security camera in the room, so it’s very hard to trust that it’s in fact confidential. There’s a lot of distraction and noise and even officers making comments directly to us, and about us, that we can hear."
Mishali is also being investigated by the Florida Bar for allegations of inappropriate behavior with her client. However, she denies such claims. "BSO legal council has confirmed that the investigation has concluded and that they were not able to conclude that sexual intercourse occurred," she said.
Granda is on trial accused of shooting into the car of his ex-girlfriend, Lisania Quintero and her then-lover, Rafael Villafane Rivera, in Pembroke Pines. The two survived the shooting, but Rivera was later found shot and killed at a Miami Lakes hotel. Granda’s ex-girlfriend is expected to testify against him after Rivera was murdered.
A prosecutor said, "The evidence in this case shows that this case is about an individual who was overcome by possessiveness, by jealousy and by rage."
However, Mishali claims Granda is being set up by his ex-girlfriend.
The trial is expected to last a few days.
