Florida Power & Light said a small number of customers were without power after a transformer exploded and sparked a dumpster fire.
The explosion happened Sunday along Giralda Avenue and Ponce De Leon Boulevard. “It sounded like…I don’t even know how to describe it, it was a loud noise,” said Julio Fernandez. “It was like two cars just crashed against the wall.”
Sparks from the transformer caused a dumpster to catch fire. “The transformer just exploded…We were all startled, everyone just started asking questions, we just saw sparks,” said Julio Fernandez.
FPL said only a few customers were affected.
It’s unclear what caused the explosion.
