WSVN — Whether you live on your own or with others, rent or own, you need some basic tools. 7’s Lynn Martinez teams up with 7’s makeover maestro, Martin Amado for the list of tools everyone should have!
Even if you’re not a DIY person, you still need some tools!
Martin Amado: "I think repairs and little minor do-it-yourself projects are sort of not at the forefront and that’s when that basic tool kit, you know, comes in handy."
Our very own Martin Amado has made a career out of designing and fixing! He doesn’t go anywhere without his trusty toolbox!
#1 LADDER
The first thing you need won’t fit in the toolbox, but it’s still important: a ladder.
Martin Amado: "Whether we’re installing curtain rods or just anything that requires that extra height."
Everyone has some things to ‘hammer out.’
#2 HAMMER
So let’s pound number two into your head.
Martin Amado: "We need a hammer to hang all the beautiful artwork and pictures and photo frames and all the different accessories."
#3 BOX OF NAILS
Of course, what’s good is a hammer… without nails? Martin suggest picking up a box of nails and hangers for your toolkit.
Up next:
A power drill is great, but you don’t have to splurge.
#4 SCREWDRIVERS: PHILLIPS AND FLATHEAD
A pair of screwdrivers, one Phillips and one Flathead will do most jobs.
Martin Amado: "If you’re painting and you’re removing the switch plates, the cover plates of all the electrical outlets. Whether you’re basically assembling something."
In a pinch, grab number five on the list.
#5 PAIR OF PLIERS
Some trusty pliers!
Martin Amado: "There are times when you have to tighten down a nut or a bolt and you need that extra support."
Let’s get things straight here.
#6 MEASURING TAPE
Everyone needs a measuring tape!
Martin Amado: "You really have a professional looking arrangement on the wall. Even just taking basic measurements for your furniture."
And finally, you need to level the playing field… literally!
#7 LEVEL TOOL
A simple level tool will show you whether your pictures or shelves are straight! Don’t be intimidated or spend a lot. All of these things are easy to find.
Martin Amado: "Any home improvement store. Even like drug stores have a section for hardware, even your grocery store nowadays."
Plus, doing it yourself can be a real morale booster!
Martin Amado: "Saving money and also feeling house proud that you did the work yourself. Don’t be afraid, try it and the more that you do it, the more empowering it is."
And there’s the obvious second choice:
Martin Amado: "Or, they can intern with me!"
Good tips there from the guy who would know! Thanks Martin!
