RAIFORD, Fla. — The execution of Juan Carlos Chavez has been delayed as several appeals continue to wind their way through the court system, according to the Department of Corrections.

Though he was scheduled to be executed at 6 p.m., the convicted killer of 9-year-old Jimmy Ryce has yet to receive the lethal injection meant to bring justice for the Ryce family.

This is not a stay of execution, notes the Department of Corrections confirms, but a delay, as the U.S. Supreme Court considers his final appeal. The execution waits.
