Surveillance cameras caught a pair of accused armed gas station robbers who, according to authorities, are responsible for a string of similar crimes in several South Florida communities.

The footage shows one of the perpetrators using a dollar bill to open the door at the Mobil gas station on US 1 and Southwest 104th Street in Pinecrest Monday, perhaps masking fingerprints. One of the men bought water, and then they bought left the premises. Authorities believe the two were about to rob the store but were scared and walked out.

The crooks then walked across the street to a Shell gas station. One of them was seen placing a gun on the counter, while the other walked behind the counter and collected money from the register. This is a major concern for us,” said Pinecrest Police Detective Alexandra Martinez. “They are a threat to our community. They do have a weapon that they’re walking around and they’re brandishing at every opportunity they’re getting.”

Officials said one of the crooks pointed the gun at a clerk on Wednesday at a BP gas station on South Dixie Highway in South Miami. The clerk complied and gave up the cash, but the duo escaped with about $300.

Police believe the duo is responsible for a string of recent robberies in South Miami, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Doral. “The fact the these two subjects are walking around with this weapon and they’re not afraid to use it, it is out major concern,” said Martinez.
