TAMARAC, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida woman was taken into custody for allegedly driving under the influence after, authorities said, she crashed her SUV into an apartment in Tamarac, Wednesday night.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, it all happened at around 11:30 p.m., Wednesday. Detectives said 41-year-old Yraida Ramirez lost control of her vehicle and ended up inside a unit at the Arbor Keys apartment complex, near Commercial Boulevard and Northwest 47th Terrace.

The SUV slammed through a sliding glass door and went so far in, it even hit part of the kitchen partition, investigators said.

"I heard this loud boom, so when I heard a loud boom, we all came out of the house," said neighbor Nathaniel Bidon. "What I saw was the brake lights in the lady’s patio."

The people who live in the apartment said they are just thankful no one was in the kitchen at the time of the crash.

One woman who lives in the apartment, who did not wish to be identified, described the terrifying moment. "I just heard a ‘Kabrom’, and when I got up, I was still somewhat asleep, and when I realized this lady was sitting in my dining room in her truck and just looking at me."

Bidon said he feared the worst had happened. "The boyfriend, I guess, he ran from his apartment and tried to get the lady out of the car," he said. "I thought someone was underneath the car. Thank God for that — that everyone is all right."

"I’ve always seen it on TV but never thought it would happen to me," said the apartment resident.

Ramirez allegedly blew a .238 during a breathalyzer test. Detectives said she took a "pinch of rum" along with painkillers she was taking for a previously broken foot.

"She was under the influence, so she was drinking and probably partying," said the apartment resident.

Ramirez, who was on crutches, told officers she was driving with her left foot because her right foot is in a cast. 7News cameras showed her hobbling on her good leg toward a cruiser where she was arrested.

This isn’t the first time Ramirez has had a run-in with the law. Back in 2013, she was arrested for public intoxication.

Thursday afternoon, 7News cameras captured workers boarding up the home with plywood. Ramirez’s SUV has since been towed from the home.

Ramirez appeared in bond court, Thursday, and remains in custody on $3,500 bond. She is facing several charges, including DUI.
