NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A large part of Biscayne Boulevard had to be shut down for hours as police investigated a suspicious bag found near a police substation.

The road finally opened at 6 p.m. Friday. Almost three hours earlier, Miami-Dade Police had ordered the evacuation of the Intercoastal Police Station at 15665 Biscayne Blvd. in Northeast Miami-Dade after a suspicious bag was left unattended near the station.

The Bomb Squad responded and detonated the device about an hour later. Traffic was blocked off for about two and a half hours on Biscayne Boulevard near Northeast 151st Street and 163rd Street. The investigation backed up traffic for hours.

Though the investigation into what that bag contained continues, police found there was no reason to keep Biscayne Boulevard closed any longer, and all roads have been reopened.

Traffic in the area is still congested but is expected to clear up soon.
