POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A surveyor was been struck and killed while working on the side of Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach, Friday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 59-year-old Enrique Diaz was working as part of a survey team, when he was struck and killed in the triangular area between the on-ramp from West Atlantic Boulevard to northbound I-95. The impact was so strong, it shattered the front window of the vehicle.
The Diaz was transported to Broward Health North where doctors pronounced him deceased.
The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Two northbound lanes of the interstate were closed, backing up traffic for several miles up to Davie Boulevard.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating the fatal accident.
