WSVN — Ladies, if you don't change up your makeup routine for South Florida summers, you're likely going to find yourself a white hot mess. But 7's Lynn Martinez is here with The List of expert summer makeup tips.
We've all been there. You look great in the mirror, but the minute you step outside…
The Wicked Witch of the West: "I'm melting, melting!"
Makeup artist Jessica Mendez at Arcayne Salon says there are seven simple ways to save your summer face.
NUMBER ONE: USE A PRIMER
Jessica Mendez, Arcayne Salon: "Tip number one: Take time to put on a primer before your foundation."
A good primer acts as a barrier between your makeup and your skin, and will help keep your foundation from streaking.
NUMBER TWO: LIGHT TOUCH
And don't just glop on foundation. Use a dampened sponge, which then will help you keep your application light.
NUMBER THREE: WATERPROOF MASCARA
Your eyes will shine with a couple of summer tweaks. For luscious lashes…
Jessica Mendez: "Use waterproof or a gel-based mascara."
Both are less likely to clump up and will stand up to steamy days.
NUMBER FOUR: USE LIQUID EYELINER
If you want to avoid a smeared eyeliner on your face, pack away the pencils, at least until fall. Stick to liquid liners.
Jessica Mendez: "It takes a little practice, but it won't smudge in the heat."
NUMBER FIVE: COLOR CREAM
Tip five: Perspiration and powdered blushes and eye shadows do not mix. You'll get a smoother natural look if you switch to a cream-based formula.
NUMBER SIX: TALC FREE TRANSLUCENT POWDER
But the right face powder can help seal your summer look.
Jessica Mendez: "Set your makeup and stop shine with a translucent powder. Make sure it's talc free for a matte finish."
NUMBER SEVEN: BLOTTING PAPER
And finally, you need paper for tip seven.
Jessica Mendez: "Keep some blotting papers in your purse to absorb oil and minimize shine."
The key is to press, not rub. Hold the paper in place until the oil is absorbed. In a pinch, a little store receipt will also do the job.
And, of course, don't forget the sunscreen!
