MIAMI (WSVN) — Clues leading to a cure for cancer have been found in an unlikely source- elephants.
A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that elephants have at least 40 extra genes that stop tumor formation. The special genes detect damaged cells and repair or kill them.
Humans only have two genes that carry out that function. According to researchers, the discovery could lead to more effective cancer treatment in humans.
