FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — As thousands of runners prepare to take over Downtown Fort Lauderdale for a corporate run, Thursday, organizers announced several street closures set to start the day before the event.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run is scheduled to kick off in front of Huizenga Plaza, located at 32 East Las Olas Blvd., at 6:45 p.m. Participants will run or walk the 5K course to promote health and wellness in the workplace.

Street closures are set to take effect Wednesday at 6 p.m. Las Olas Boulevard will be closed between Andrews Avenue and Southeast First Avenue. Beginning Thursday at 1 p.m., it will extend to Southeast Second Avenue. In addition, Southeast First Avenue will be closed to traffic from Southeast Second Street to Las Olas Boulevard.

With the exception of Las Olas, roadways will reopen Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Las Olas will reopen at 11 p.m.

Approximately 8,000 people from more than 288 companies are expected to take part in the corporate run. Part of the proceeds will benefit United Way.
