MADRID (AP) — Doctors say a second and conclusive test shows a Spanish nursing assistant infected with Ebola is completely clear of the virus.
Jose Ramon Arribas of the Carlos III hospital said Tuesday the blood test showed Teresa Romero’s immune system had eliminated the virus.
Romero, 44, battled for her life after she tested positive Oct. 6 and was admitted to the Madrid hospital.
Doctors say she began to show signs of recovery last week. She first tested negative Sunday.
Romero received plasma from a recovered Ebola patient but health authorities have disclosed no more treatment details.
She was the first known person to contract the disease outside of West Africa in the latest outbreak.
A spokeswoman for Romero says she is expected to remain at the hospital about two more weeks.
