CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) — Local politicians encourage South Floridians to ride their bicycles to work.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez along with county commissioners kicked off Miami-Dade’s annual Bike-To-Work-Day.

Friday’s ride kicked off at the University of Miami’s Metrorail station. “The ride is awesome,” said one bicyclist. “We leave at 6 o’clock in the morning, take the busway, and we laugh at all the traffic waiting stuck at red lights while we keep on going.”

Residents were asked to leave their cars behind and join the ride to reduce traffic congestion and experience the stress-relieving benefits of pedaling a bike.
