MIAMI (WSVN) — Some South Florida students were honored by the Miami Police for their hard work. 

Ten kids were honored at the Do the Right Thing awards ceremony in Miami, Tuesday. 

The Miami Police Department hosted the ceremony, which recognizes students for their positive behavior, actions and good deeds. 

One high school senior, who’s homeless and has been living in a shelter for the past five years just, got accepted to college. Terrence Nickerson will be studying computer science in the fall. "After everything that’s been going on with my own personal life, when I do go to FIU, I actually have a huge goal in terms of changing the future, and stuff like this is my own little step to getting to that goal. I feel awesome."

The students were selected from a pool of more than 600 nominees across Miami-Dade County.
