PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. (WSVN) — In less than 24 hours, the four iconic candy-cane-colored smokestacks at Port Everglades will be demolished.
The demolition is being done to make room for a more efficient power plant. “It will sound like a thunderstorm,” noted Bill Orlove, an FPL Spokesperson. “It will feel like a tractor trailer, an 18-wheeler coming by. It should all be over within a minute.”
The new $1.2 billion plant will run on natural gas instead of foreign oil, which, FPL says, is better for the environment. “Better for customers, keep bills low, better for environment, help create jobs, boost Florida’s economy,” Orlove said.
