ARLINGTON, Va. (WSVN) — Four unassuming diners in Arlington, Virginia expected to receive a basic check at the end of their meal, but what they read instead left them speechless.
According to the Washington Post, four men, three of them wearing plaid, were eating dinner at Peter Chang in Arlington (the original P.F. Chang’s) on Saturday night. According to one of the diners, who lived in Beijing for nearly a decade, he alerted his server that the presentation of the rice was inauthentic, since it came in a family-sized dish instead of individual portions.
So, he asked his server, "Oh, you guys don’t serve them in individual rice bowls?"
The server said no and asked if they would like individual rice bowls instead, but they declined. Then, the server asked once more, and they politely declined once again — or so they thought.
Then, when they asked the server to split the check four ways, the server responded, "That’s totally how they do it in China." In China, one person pays for the entire meal, so they quickly realized he was being sarcastic.
When they finally received their check, they quickly realized something was off. At the bottom of check were two comments, each clearly typed into the system from the restaurant’s system. The first: "im a plaid a——." The other: "I have a small penis."
The manager, Qian Cheng, apologized and explained the servers were just joking with one another, but for the four customers, the remarks were far from funny. Maybe the $20 gift cards they received from the manager will make up for their troubles… maybe.
According to Cheng, the servers responsible will not work prime weekend shifts in the near future and will have their hours reduced.
