OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) — A house fire in Opa-Locka left one person dead Thursday morning.

Miami-Dade Fire rescue responded to the scene near Northwest 21st Court and York Street, sometime before 9 a.m.

According to officials, an elderly woman was trapped inside the home. Firefighters fought their way through the flames but were unable to reach her.

“The fire department got here very quickly. They responded very quickly,” said Opa-Locka City Manager David Chiverton, “but apparently the location of where the woman laid because she was bedridden, it was difficult to get to her.”

“She’ll be greatly missed because everyone loved her,” said a neighbor, “and we will truly miss her.”

The Miami-Dade Fire Department and homicide crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
