BALTIMORE (WSVN) — Former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula is mentioned in a lawsuit filed Thursday by 13 former NFL players against all 32 teams.
The plaintiffs mentioned Shula and two other coaches, but they are not being sued. The former players claim all teams provided painkillers to keep players on the field and did not inform them of the medications’ long-term effects or the seriousness of their individual injuries.
The suit contends that Shula, former Detroit Lions coach Wayne Fontes and former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Holmgren went so far as to tell players that they would be cut if they did not use painkillers.
