WSVN — Recipes are a great way for anyone to create new dishes, but sometimes the price of the ingredients may get in the way. In tonight’s Dollars and Sense, Lynn Martinez explains how some recipe sites and stores are teaming up to save you money.
You found the perfect recipe for your family but how much are you going to have to pay for all those ingredients?
Leanette Fernandez: “Sometimes that would stop me from trying new stuff. It’s like, ‘OK, well if this item is not on sale, I have to wait until it’s on sale.'”
Savings expert Leanette Fernandez knows the importance of saving at meal time.
Leanette Fernandez: “When it comes to feeding a family of four and having two kids that are always eating, it’s really good to save money where ever I can.”
She was thrilled when she found recipe sites like BettyCrocker.com were actually helping her find out where ingredients for the recipes she loves are on sale.
Leanette Fernandez: “There’s a button that says save on this recipe. So I click on that and it tells me what items are on sale and then where to find those items.”
The ingredients that were on sale for this recipe were ground beef, bacon, eggs, onions and tomatoes. And Leanette didn’t even have to do any extra work to save.
Leanette Fernandez: “Even if you’re not the kind of person that likes to clip coupons or you don’t want to have to go searching all the store ads, it’s all in one place for you.”
It goes one more step, showing you the sale prices at various stores so you decide where to shop for the best deal. No more being stuck to a meal based on sales. Let your tastebuds run wild without a big grocery bill.
Leanette Fernandez: “I hate eating the same thing over and over again, so being able to find this is pretty awesome. Because not only can I try new items, but I can also save in the process.”
A win-win for tasty dinners and your bank account.
Leanette Fernandez: “I can’t save at everything in life, but I can save with groceries.”
